China's economic boom has an environmental dark side. While China's economy continues to grow at a rate of more than 8% annually, as it has for more than two decades, the country's environment and the Chinese people are paying a steep price. It's bad for everyone living in this land with thousands years of history.
But that is not the worst. The worst is Chinese local governments see environment-related public health second after higher GDP growth. With the local governments' support, openly or not, a great deal of factories which pollute environment and do harm to people were built and run with great profit.

Battery products from Panasonic might be the best in the industry, as with its electric appliances, even with the best price or lowest price. But when the same hazardous material in the battaries now are also contaminated in a lot of Chinese workers and their kids, harming them and hurt them, I shall never buy battery products from Panasonic, any batteries for camcords, DVD players, notebooks, at any lowest price, $7.99, $5.99, or $0.99.
Chinese administration has ignored its human rights obligation for a long time. United States government should push Chinese more hard in environment protection, global warming and other critical issues.
